Painted renditions of objects, events, individuals, emotions, and virtues have been created by human beings since the very beginnings of recorded history. The various styles of painted representation that have emerged throughout the duration of mankind have served to both inspire and influence the various human cultures from which these styles are borne. The individuals responsible for the creation of the works of art that ultimately serve as tools and vehicles for human stimulation are known as artists.
